regatta coming to elevator bay

with all the fuss being raised about lake ontario park i almost missed the stink being raised about the planned development on elevator bay, the think slice of land jutting out from the western edge of the park. nothing on it at the moment but whoa nelly you should see what they have planned.

the site has garnered a lot of attention over the years any some wacky plans have been put forward from time to time. one of my favs is at right.

wild eh?

a group called luxe group backed the proposal and this really is the oddest looking thing on their website. i must say though that i kind of like it - it's distinctive anyway... although i don't know where anyone would park...

however, the one that might have the most legs is that put forward by the forrest group. not nearly as cool looking - more brutishly normal to tell the truth.

k7waterfront.com has posted some pics from the community get together they had the other night when the project was unveiled. there are some interesting environmental initiatives planned for the development, including the use of geothermal...

the website for the project is interesting although short on details. it does include a 360 degree tour of the site where the buildings look semi-translucent and all the boats at the marina are the exact same but is kind of cool.

wiki travel's take on k-town

one of wikipedia's more ugly sisters is wikitravel. it takes a very brief look at kingston that is kind of cute...

for instance here is the two sentence analysis of queen's...

Queen's University: Another of Kingston's most famous institutions. Many limestone buildings with ivy and students.

ivy... AND students??!? crazyness. you do learn things though... like the following:

Wooden Heads and Atomica specialize in pizzas made in wood fire brick ovens. The focus of these restaurants are more on the waitresses and less on the food, though the latter is not too bad at either place. Wooden Heads Located on Ontario St., Atomica located on Brock St.

i wasn't aware.

more fun is the response that ristorante luigina had, accessible through the 'discussion' section. they were not appreciative of being included in the higher end establishments.

GOOD DAY, we at RISTORANTE LUIGINA have come across the review written about our Restaurant. We are not sure the source, but we are thankful for the appreciation for our cuisine. We, however, DO NOT AGREE WITH THE "SPLURGE" HEADING, and the "above $50 and $100" quote, as we feel that for an average meal (appetizer, main, dessert and glass of wine) the pricing woul be approximately $37 per person. Furthermore, this price is actually lower than the other Restaurants mentioned, even though the quality of our food, service, and anbience is higher.

post exam celebration

a little bitty of a story on the queen's campus security page... amidst the numerous bikes going missing is the following:

May 1, 8:40 am: Residences - Campus Security was informed a small fire was set behind one of the Residence buildings, likely during the previous evening or very early morning. Security and Environmental Health & Safety staff attended and confirmed some text books were set on fire and then put out with a fire extinguisher.

Another good one... note the date...

April 1, 3:45 am: Residences - A student reported his 32" Digimate plasma screen television was stolen from his room while it was left unlocked and unattended around midnight. The caller reported his roommate was there when he left, but he and the television were gone when he returned about an hour later.

this one leaves out many details...

April 4, 7:40 am: Mackintosh Corry - An Emergency Phone near MacCorry was activated but left the area before Security's arrival. It was suspected a group of students dressed as superheroes - reported previously by cafeteria staff - may have been responsible for this false activation.

also a post about a streaker (no pic) but few details are included.

an earlier one from march...

March 7, 2:02 am: Student Housing Area - The Emergency Report Center received a call from a student living in a house near main campus who reported a male individual wearing a hula skirt was throwing garbage around in the street. That was followed later by the same caller reporting one or two males were looking in the window of their house, but during this report the caller realized they knew who the individuals were and hung up. Security staff attended the area but found no one fitting the provided description and no sign of garbage in the street.
